The Allure of Death

Ever stood on the ledge of a really high building, contemplating to break the world record for the world’s highest long jump? Yes, that’s the allure of death. A feeling so primal that scientists have been researching it for years. Consciousness brings along with it a whole heap of troubles, this being one of them. A primeval feeling that has transcended generations. You see, deep down somewhere human beings love death and destruction. If that’s not the case, why are we mortally obsessed with MMA and WWE then? Because seeing a man being beaten black and blue brings a sense of deep satisfaction, one that is inexplicable.

Death has been solidified as a taboo subject by our society, even approaching it can get you branded as a ‘sad’ or ‘pessimistic’ individual, even though it’s the only predictable thing about our lives. One can never be sure of anything, since things happen randomly, but one thing is affixed in our stars, our death. Isn’t it strange that we will lift the entire planet on our heads just to avoid the burden of discussing our own demise? “It’s such a negative thing yaar, death and all.”

If it’s such a negative thing, then why does a body splattering on the ground attracts our eyes so badly? Why does it entertain us to no end, glancing upon a car exploding in the distance? If death is such a negative thing, why do we say “he’s in a better place now” when gaining knowledge of someone’s demise. It’s because deep down we are aware that after all, death isn’t really that bad. Gaining independence from the one’s material existence can’t really be that gross.

One stands on the ledge of a high-rise and wonders “Well If I wanted to, I could end it all right now”, now that’s true freedom. No one is born of their own accord, I say, why can’t we leave on our own?
