The Weeknd AKA Abel Makonnen Tesfaye ends his ongoing trilogy on the pinnacle of auditory transcendence. Hurry up Tomorrow is his 6th and final studio album delivered with his usual magnificence. A 22 song long journey that earmarks his final hurrah under the moniker of “Weeknd”. Containing groovy mixes of dance-pop, jazz, chipmunk-soul and operatic take-downs like you have never heard before. The Weeknd embarked on this trilogy in March of 2020, unbeknownst to his own fans. 2 years later we were blessed with the magical sounds imbued in 103.5 Dawn FM, upon which he posted a rather sneaky tweet, saying “are you aware you are experiencing a new trilogy” leaving his fans shocked.
Hurry up Tomorrow is a fitting end to this meticulous trilogy, one that vastly outshines his 2012 album titled “Trilogy”, curating 3 mix-tapes – House of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence. It’s like a snake eating its own metaphorical tail, completing this journey with a Trilogy which is an order of magnitude better than the previous one. 2013 saw the release of his first Studio Album named “Kiss Land”, upon which he decided to go POP and came out with “Beauty behind the Madness” and “Starboy” in 2015 and 2016 respectively. An LP by the name of “My Dear Melancholy” also graces our ears in early 2018.
And ever since the beginning of 2020, we have been engulfed by this mammoth auditory odyssey. The final song of the Album, is self-titled after the album, and ends by fading to “High for This”, The Weeknd’s first song. An emblematic and enigmatic end to his legendary body of work, much like the artist himself.
A 10/10 experience through and through.
