After being outlawed by the Indian government last year, TikTok, a short video platform owned by ByteDance, is trying to resurrect TikTok India. The country's IT rules have been updated, and TikTok intends to exploit them to plan its comeback.
TikTok is already available in several Southeast Asian nations. President of the United States, Joe Biden, has also lifted the ban on TikTok imposed by the previous administration of Donald Trump.
The sources told the Economic Times that the business and geopolitical matters should be handled separately. They wanted to draw attention to the tensions that erupted between China and India last year as a result of army battles on the countries' borders. They're also talking about how they've noticed a boost in trade between China and India.
According to IWMBuzz, Nikhil Gandhi, the CEO of TikTok India, decided to leave the short video entertainment platform in May of this year.
The Indian government decided to ban 60 Chinese technology-developed apps, including TikTok India, in June 2020. The government rationalized this decision by claiming that it had received several complaints about many mobile apps stealing and suspiciously sending user data to servers outside of India. Both iOS and Android smartphones are supported by these apps.
ByteDance created TikTok in September 2016 to allow users to watch and share short films ranging from 15 to 60 seconds in length in categories such as dance, education, and comedy.
TikTok had been downloaded over 2 billion times by mobile phones by October 2020.
